Reweigh

Carriers run pallets across certified in-line scales as freight moves through their terminals. A reweigh is simply the carrier weighing a shipment and comparing the result to the weight declared on the bill of lading.

If the actual weight is higher than what was billed, the carrier issues a weight correction and rebills the difference — often alongside a reclassification if the density changed too. Underdeclared weight is one of the leading causes of an invoice exceeding the original quote.

Accurate scale weights on the BOL are the simplest way to avoid reweigh adjustments. When a reweigh looks wrong, it can be disputed with the shipper’s own certified scale ticket.
