Residential Delivery
Residential delivery is an accessorial for delivering to (or picking up from) a location classified as residential, which carriers bill because homes lack docks and add routing complexity.
Carriers charge a residential accessorial when a pickup or delivery point is a home, or a location the carrier classifies as residential. Residential stops take longer, lack loading docks, and complicate routing, so they carry an added fee.
A residential delivery almost always pairs with a liftgate request (no dock) and often a delivery appointment or notification. Home-based businesses can be flagged residential by the carrier even when the shipper considers them commercial.
Declaring residential status at quote time produces an accurate all-in rate and avoids a common post-delivery back-bill.
