Charges & Accessorials

Accessorial

An accessorial is an extra carrier fee for any service beyond standard dock-to-dock pickup and delivery — for example liftgate, residential, or inside delivery.

Accessorials are add-on charges for services outside a carrier’s base dock-to-dock move. Common ones include liftgate service, residential pickup or delivery, inside delivery, limited-access locations (schools, farms, construction sites), delivery appointments or notification, detention, and reweigh or reclassification fees.

Accessorials are the most common source of a final invoice exceeding the original quote. Each unrequested service the carrier performs is billed after the fact, so the fix is to declare every applicable accessorial up front.

When quoting on FreightCake, selecting the correct accessorials — especially liftgate and residential — produces an accurate all-in rate and avoids surprise back-bills.
