Liftgate

A liftgate lets a driver lower palletized freight from the trailer floor to the ground (and vice versa) without a loading dock or forklift. It is essential for residential deliveries, small businesses, and any site without dock-height access.

Requesting a liftgate is an accessorial charge, and it can apply at pickup, delivery, or both. Because most standard LTL trailers are not equipped with one by default, the carrier dispatches a liftgate-equipped truck only when it is requested.

Failing to flag a needed liftgate at quote time is a frequent cause of failed deliveries and added fees, so it should be specified whenever the destination lacks a dock.
