PRO Number

A PRO number is the unique tracking identifier a carrier assigns to an LTL shipment, used to track it from pickup through delivery.

A PRO number — short for “progressive” number — is the carrier’s internal tracking ID for a shipment. The carrier assigns it (often from a pre-printed PRO label) when the freight enters its network, and it stays with the shipment through every terminal, status update, and the final proof of delivery.

The PRO is what you use to track an LTL shipment and to reference it on the carrier’s invoice. It is distinct from the bill of lading number: the BOL is the shipper’s document created before pickup, while the PRO is the carrier’s identifier assigned at pickup.

On FreightCake, the PRO number surfaces automatically once a carrier accepts the shipment, so tracking and documents stay linked.
